Where to Apply for a Stairlift Grant

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Your local council to help towards the cost of a Disabled Facilities Grant for a stairlift and adaptations to  your home to enable you to continue to live there.

A grant is paid when the council considers you eligible and these are means tested but worth a try.  The only downfall is the length of time the government can take in awarding the grant and sometimes this is not a practical time limit but it is always worth enquiring.

Visit the  DirectGov website Opens in a new window as the first port of call as it has lots of useful information about who is able to get a grant how much you maybe entitled to in simple plain english.

Stairlift and Changes to Social Care Policy

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The political parties are unveiling plans to revamp the social care system, with even more emphasis on keeping the elderly at home.  This has to be good news as Gordon Brown is proposing a better system for personal care to the elderly, at present anyone with savings over £23,500 receives no state assistance at all.  Stairlifts grants are not given for anyone with £8,000 savings these are means tested.

The system includes everything from the support people receive with washing and dressing to stay in their own homes through to full-time residential care.

The majority is provided to the elderly who can no longer look after themselves, but it also includes the support given to those with disabilities.  This is where stairlifts and bathlifters and many other mobility products are a real blessing.  I am wholeheartedly behind anything or any service that can help the elderly stay in their homes, there is one thing for sure no one wants to go into a nursing home if possible.

The social care system does need a revamp, over the years the system seems to have diminished, take for example Home Helps these used to be a real asset to the elderly and now money is now given to the elderly to pay for cleaners, with less Home Helps around.  I would like to see a one stop shop for the elderly where they know they will be able to get good advice and help if necessary.

As for stairlifts and other mobility equipment the system at present is far too slow, when you need a stairlift you need one NOW, not in months and some councils it can take years.  This is not acceptable!  In fact it is disgusting, we all pay into this system and our needs should be met when needed.

Let hope this change of policy speeds things up but i don’t think i’ll hold my breath.

We Welcome the New Curved Stairlift to Market

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

i have been working in the Stairlift industry as a Marketing Director for 15 years and i have developed a good understanding about our industry and the products available. Over this time we have gained valuable stairlift knowledge especially which stairlifts are more reliable than others. i know this as we at Caremore Stairlifts don’t retail just one brand we select only the most reliable stairlifts on the market and often review our product range advising our customers which stairlifts are the most reliable for their needs. As the market place is constantly changing we keep a close eye on this, as we need to ensure our customers get the best value for money especially with the credit crunch buying the right stairlift that will fulfil their needs is crucial.

Due to having a larger selection of products we can install stairlifts that other company’s can not and our advice is often called upon in difficult circumstances, such as on the slimmest staircases, as we retail the slimmest stairlift on the market, and for the curved staircase the tightest internal bend, these are two features our customers find invaluable as getting the stairlift fitted in the neatest of spaces leaves the staircase free for other stair users.

We are constantly looking for the best innovative products on the market, but what i really want to talk to you about today is the new curved stairlift to market, the ‘New Curve’, which is proving to be extremely reliable and is produced with one of the shortest lead times which pleases our customers, as this is a curved stairlift the rail has to be tailor-made to each individual staircase, a curved stairlift has a longer manufacturing time than a straight stairlift. Straight stairlifts can be fitted within 3 to 7 working days, but as curved stairlifts are manufactured to each individual staircase they take a little longer to manufacture. The exciting news is the new ‘Curve’ stairlift can be manufactured in 2 weeks, when you compare this with the Minivator 2000 and the Stannah 260 which have a lead time of 4 to 6 weeks this has to be good news, as our customers often needs their stairlifts extremely quickly.

The Director of Caremore Martyn Rattle stated, ” we are very pleased with the new ‘Curve’, the manufacturers have kept it simple and it is a very reliable, slim and neat product that is competitively priced. We have quite a few in the market place and so far we have no problems with any of them. we are very pleased to recommend this product.”

So if your looking for a reliable new curved stairlift at a cost effective price this stairlift maybe the one for you.
