Where to Apply for a Stairlift Grant

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Your local council to help towards the cost of a Disabled Facilities Grant for a stairlift and adaptations to  your home to enable you to continue to live there.

A grant is paid when the council considers you eligible and these are means tested but worth a try.  The only downfall is the length of time the government can take in awarding the grant and sometimes this is not a practical time limit but it is always worth enquiring.

Visit the  DirectGov website Opens in a new window as the first port of call as it has lots of useful information about who is able to get a grant how much you maybe entitled to in simple plain english.

Stairlifts Grants are needed

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Stairlifts grants are needed for our elderly. I find it quite frightening when i speak to people who really are in desperate need of a stairlift grant. Yesterday a lady came into our shop who was in a wheelchair and only had one leg. She is in desperate need of a stairlift and has been told that the grant to provide a stairlift for her could be up to three years to approve. This is disgusting, as when you need a stairlift you need a stairlift. Nobody wants to buy one they are genuinely purchased out of need.

It does really make you think about the strain our benefits system is under. It is shocking to think that we have paid into this system all our lives and when you really need something from the system  like a stairlift you can not gain access to a piece of vital equipment you need to add quality to your life when you need it most.  Stairlifts should be available to all that need them afterall staying at home saves the government masses of money from housing our elderly in homes. So come on more government grants please for our elderly, waiting years for stairlift is not an option.

If you have any stories relating to this please let me know.  The only other option is stairlift rentals as i have nmentioned before, sometimes people do have actually have to pay for a rental before they get a stairlift.  They are rented for a limited time period so they can get on with their lives until the grant is approved.  The good thing about renting a stairlift is that we actually rent for one week at a time, so you can get the stairlift removed at short notice.

Stairlift Grants

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Disability Grants are available for those on low income with less than £6,000 savings, hence they are means tested.

Grants are available from your local council and are there to provide for people who need adaptations doing to their homes, this facility includes stairlifts. A council could agree to provide a stairlift if they feel a stairlift will be a practical solution to your needs. The grant has to be approved within a six month period by law, and the stairlift has to be installed within 12 month period. This seems a long winded process to me as most people who need a stairlift need one quite quickly. Changes in the system are needed – more speed please! This would really help people who need a stairlift get access to one when needed not way too late.

People who are eligible for Disabled Facilities Grant are:

1) You, or someone living in your property, is disabled

2) You, or the person you are applying for, are the owner or a tenant of the property

3) You can certify that you, or the person you are applying for, intend to occupy the property as your main residence for a period of five years (the duration of the grant)

Anyway if you need stairlift information visit www.caremorstairlifts.co.uk Please be aware that a stairlift rental can be an option whilst awaiting the long arrival of your stairlift.
